For something truly distinct, you may want to consider the beauty of parquet flooring. Intricate patterns, detailed construction, and endless design options ensure your wood parquetry is spectacular. Like regular timber flooring, parquet floors are covered in a protective coating, ensuring the design, colour, and brilliance remain intact for years to come.
Create your own parquetry design or choose from hundreds of pre-made designs, from herringbone and basketweave to mosaic and brick bond. When you contact us for an in-home consultation, we'll bring samples and pictures of the various parquetry designs available.
Cork Flooring for Sustainability Cork flooring is not made from wine corks or bulletin boards, rather, it comes from the cork oak tree, native to the Mediterranean. The cork bark is harvested from the trees about every 10 years, but the tree remains intact and regrows the cork bark, making the material wonderfully sustainable. Cork trees can live to about 200 years, so 20 harvests in its lifetime is reasonable!
After wine corks are punched out of the raw material, the cork is then pressed, baked into sheets, and ready to be made into flooring tiles. In addition to its sustainability, cork absorbs sound, is easy on the feet, does not accumulate dust, and resists mold, mildew, and pests.
Caring for Cork Floors
Cork contains natural colour variations, and can also be enhanced with dyes or stains, much like timber flooring. The main concern with cork flooring is its vulnerability to nicks and dings. While sealing and coating every few years is imperative, it's also recommended that you sweep and clean it regularly. In addition, you must protect it from furniture, using simple protective pads underneath, such as on dining table and chair legs.
